I remember LOVING when it was sloppy joes night at home growing up as a kid. My Dad would buy those super soft white buns with the sesame seeds on the top, a packet of McCormick sloppy joes mix, and ground meat and viola dinner was on the table. Now I try to stay away from those pre-packaged mixes to not only avoid the preservatives but also the high-FODMAP ingredients like garlic and onion. This healthified turkey version I am confident will be a family hit and a quick addition to your FODMAP dinner recipes. I got two thumbs up from my husband who LOVED the sweet flavor from the BBQ sauce.
I don’t know about you but I was super curious to learn where the origins of “sloppy joes” came from. Thank goodness for Wikipedia seems to be able to answer almost all of random questions! 😉 I quickly found out that the first sloppy joe was traced back to the 1930s in Iowa where the sandwich was described as being a “loose meat sandwich” created by a cook named…JOE! The Manwich sandwich came about by the 1960s and the rest was history.
