How to Make the Best Tofu Tutorial

low FODMAP foods - tofu

There’s something I need to get off my chest and that’s the bad rap that tofu gets. I know it sounds silly to get worked up about something as uninteresting as tofu but I do!  For some reason when you mention tofu – you can see people instantly roll their eyes and lose interest.  I think the main reason is people: a) Don’t know what tofu really is b) How to prepare it c) Are afraid to try something new.   Tofu is categorized under low FODMAP foods if you stick to 2/3 serving size.

I love how tofu takes on the flavor of whatever it is marinated in which makes it the perfect accompaniment to add to stir-fries, rice bowls, spring rolls or any of your favorite dish!

So what exactly IS tofu?!  Tofu has been around for over 2,000 years in Asia and is now becoming more mainstream in the Western countries.  Tofu is basically soy milk that has been curdled, pressed & formed into a block.

Description

This is the easiest and most delicious tofu recipe!

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 package of firm pressed tofu
  • 1 tablespoon corn starch
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt & pepper

Instructions

  1. Remove tofu from package and place in between paper towels between two plates.
  2. Put a heavy object like a jar, sauce pan, etc. on top of a plate and let sit for 15-20 minutes. This will speed the process of draining the moisture out of the tofu. (Halfway through you’ll want to swap out paper towels if they get too soaked).
  3. Cube tofu and place in a large bowl.  Gently mix the corn starch, salt & pepper.
  4. Place the tofu on a parchment covered baking sheet.
  5. Bake at 400 degrees for 15 minutes, flip and bake for an additional 15 minutes.
  6. Let rest for a few minutes in order to firm up the tofu even more.
