When I think about my favorite comfort dishes, my mind immediately goes to a fresh bowl of pasta and turkey meat sauce! Growing up it was a go-to dinner option as it was easy for my parents to quickly boil water, brown ground meat and open a jar of pasta sauce. Things are a little different now for me as I’m using ground turkey, gluten-free pasta and homemade pasta sauce to make a filling and complete low FODMAP dinner.
Trust me, I’m not a fancy cook but when you throw some good quality ingredients together to make your own pasta sauce, you’ll never want to buy the “cheap” stuff again. Not only do the sauces have FODMAP hidden triggers like garlic and onion but who needs added sugar and corn syrup added to it? There are some safe FODMAP tomato sauce options available that you can buy like this one or this one but if I have an additional few minutes I prefer to make it myself.

Description
A classic meat sauce recipe with FODMAP safe vegetables snuck in to add more nutrients.
Ingredients
- 1 tbsp extra virgin olive oil
- 1 tbsp green onions, diced
- 1 lb ground turkey
- 1 tsp salt
- 1 – 28 ounce can of crushed tomatoes (garlic and onion free)
- 1 – 6 ounce can of tomato paste
- 1.5 tsp of dried oregano
- 1 tsp of dried basil or handful of fresh basil
- 1/2 cup zucchini, diced
- 1/2 cup red bell pepper, diced
Instructions
- In a large skillet add the olive oil and green onions and saute for a 1-2 minutes on medium heat.
- Add the ground turkey to the pan and brown while breaking up the meat with a spoon until cooked through (approximately 5-8 minutes).
- Lower heat to medium-low and add the remaining ingredients.
- Cover the pan and let simmer for 20-25 minutes, stirring occasionally.
Notes
Serve over your favorite gluten-free pasta!
